讲座内容
Storing and cooling of ions offers, in general, great possibilities for high-precision spectroscopy studies. Cooled ion beams can have excellent properties (defined velocity with a small spread, low emittance) and can be interrogated for longer periods of time, owing to the often ideal vacuum conditions. At heavy-ion storage rings, such as the ESR at GSI (Darmstadt, Germany) or the CSRe at the IMP (Lanzhou, China), the high repetition rate (~MHz) and the high velocity (~0.5 c) of the stored ion beams are being exploited to study electronic transitions inside the relativistic highly-charged ions which are otherwise not accessible. Due to the large Doppler shift of the laser light, as seen by the relativistic ions when they propagate anti-collinearly to the laser photons, `normal?laser wavelengths (UV/VIS) can be used to assess XUV-transitions (fine structure!) inside the ions. 
With state-of-the-art laser and detector systems, which are especially developed or tailored for storage ring experiments, precision laser spectroscopy and laser cooling experiments can be performed, yielding results which can challenge modern atom structure calculations and allow for tests of quantum electrodynamics (QED), special relativity, or correlation effects in few-electron ions. 
In my talk I will start with the interest in highly-charged ions from the atomic physics perspective, discuss the ingredients for laser cooling and laser spectroscopy at storage rings, show some important results, and finally present our future plans (SPARC@FAIR).
