Chung-Horng Lung received Ph.D. degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Arizona State University in 1994. He was with Nortel Networks from 1995 to 2001. He received Nortel's Present's Award in 1996 and 1998. In September 2001, he joined the Department of Systems and Computer Engineering,Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada, where he is now a Professor. He currently is the Director for OCIECE, a joint institute of ECE between University of Ottawa and Carleton University. His research interests include: Communication Networks, Software Engineering, Cloud Computing.
讲座内容
Internet of Things (IoT) is ubiquitous, which includes objects communicating through heterogenous networks. One of the major challenges in mobile IoT is vertical handover decision (VHD) between heterogenous networks for seamless connectivity. Conventional VHD approach is based on received signal strength (RSS), which is limited to only RSS quality. Hence, it is inefficient to decide the best network for vertical handover, since it always selects the target network with the strongest signal without taking into account the other factors, such as quality of service (QoS), cost, delay, etc.  We propose an adaptive multi-criteria based VHD (MCVHD) and fuzzy logic for efficient VHD among Wi-Fi, Radio and Satellite networks. The MCVHD based fuzzy logic decision scheme aims toward achieving seamless connectivity for the mobile IoT Edge Gateway over a set of heterogeneous networks, e.g., Wi-Fi, Radio, Satellite, etc. The proposed scheme is applied for vertical handover management in heterogeneous networks for mobile Internet of Things (IoT). The proposed solution is tested in real time using a hardware testbed containing resource constrained IoT devices like Raspberry Pi 3 connected with JY901 sensors, Wi-Fi, XTend RF Modem and RockBLOCK Mk2 9602 Iridium SBD Modem. The experimental results show that the proposed approach outperforms the conventional RSS Quality based VHD by minimizing handover failures, unnecessary handovers, handover time and cost of service by selecting the best available network using multi-criteria parameters.
