Toshikazu Hori received the B.E., M.E. and Dr. Eng. degrees in electrical engineering from Kanazawa University, Japan, in 1974, 1976 and 1993, respectively. In 1976, he joined the Electrical Communications Laboratories, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Public Corporation (now, NTT Corp.). Since then, he has been engaged in the research and development of antennas for satellite, cellular and microcellular mobile, and broadband wireless communication systems. In 2001, he moved to the University of Fukui, and has been a Professor at the Graduate School of Engineering. His current research interests lie in the area of antennas and propagation for wireless broadband systems, especially, broadband antennas and meta-surfaces. In 2016, he retired from the University of Fukui, and is currently a Guest Professor of University of Fukui. Prof. Hori served as the Chair of the IEEE AP-S Japan Chapter in 2000, the Chair of the IEEE AP-S Nagoya Chapter from 2009 to 2010, the Vice-Chair of IEEE Nagoya Section from 2013 to 2014, respectively. He was also the Guest Editor-in-Chief of four special issues in IEICE Trans., the Chair of the Technical Committee on Antennas and Propagation (TC-AP) of IEICE Japan from 2007 to 2009, and the Representative of IEICE Hokuriku Section from 2011 to 2012, respectively. He is now the Advisory Committee Member of the TC-AP of IEICE Japan. He is a Life Fellow of the IEEE, and is also a Fellow of the IEICE Japan.

讲座内容

A meta-surface (MTS) features realizing arbitrary reflection characteristics. In order to achieve the excellent reflection characteristics in an easy configuration, the MTS composed of both frequency selective surface (FSS) and the ground plane was proposed. By utilizing the spatial filter characteristics of FSS well, the MTS with desired reflection characteristics can be realized simply. This talk introduces the low-profile and wideband design method of the MTS composed of both FSS and the ground plane for realizing the orthogonal polarization conversion function. When the spatial filter characteristics of FSS is given, the relational equation between the reflection phase and the thickness of the MTS is derived by using approximate optical ray theory. By using this relational equation, the MTS with the desired reflection phase can be designed for an arbitrary frequency and thickness of the MTS. Here, the low-profile and wideband design method of the MTS is made clear by using this relational equation. And, the configuration of FSS suitable to the MTS for the orthogonal polarization conversion is also made clear.
