讲座人介绍

Fabrice Onofri received a PhD (University of Rouen) and a Habilitation (Aix-Marseille University) in Physics. As a CNRS Research Director and the head of the optical research activities of the laboratory IUSTI, his main research activity is focused on the optical & electromagnetic characterization of particle and particle systems. Over the years, his research has found applications in various fields ranging from aerosols, multiphase flows, suspensions or dusty plasmas in the frame on national and international projects as well as industrial granted projects.

讲座内容

There is a renewed interest in the analysis of optical catastrophes and singularities such as weak or strong caustics, diffraction… Because of the severe limitations of electromagnetic light models, their initial modeling makes extensive use of asymptotic models coupling physical and geometrical optics approximations, while the study of their propagation rest on the scalar diffraction theory (e.g. Fresnel-Kirchhoff). Experimentally, their morphological properties, from which particle and particle systems properties can be inferred, are essentially studied in the far-field with a Fourier optics (e.g. at the rainbow or critical angles). Recently, it has been shown that some of their features can be roughly captured by digital in-line holography, opening up huge perspectives.
