He obtained his Bachelor degree in physics from Shaanxi Normal University and Master of Science in radio physics from Xidian University. He had 4 year teaching experience in these two universities before joint the mixed research unity “CORIA/UMR 6614” in Rouen University (France) in 1990 as a visiting scholar where he obtained his PhD and then worked as researcher. In 1998 he got the permanent position associate professor, became the full professor in 2008 and promoted to the first class professor in 2015.

His main interests of research are 1). Theoretical research on the interaction of shaped laser beam and regular shaped particles, 2). Development of optical techniques for measurement of small particles and its application in the fluid mechanics and combustion. 3). Theoretical prediction of radiation pressure and torque exerted on a particle by a shaped beam. 4). Development of a new model – Vectorial Complex Ray Model (VCRM) – for describing the scattering of an object of arbitrary shape and a wave. He has published 90 papers in the scientific journals and 100 communications in national and international conferences. He has developed 6 scientific softwares in his research fields and given more than 30 invited conferences in the universities and research laboratories all around the world. His is now the coordinator of the French national project ANR AMO-COPS which involves 4 CNRS laboratories.

He is member of scientific committee of CORIA, expert of 111 project of Beijing Institute of Technology, vice president of “Association of Chinese Scientists and Ingeneers in France (ASICEF)”, president of Xidian University Alumni Association in France (XDUAAF). He was vice president of the scientific commission of sections 30-60-62 at Rouen university, one of the “hundred-talents of Shaanxi”, president of the “conference of the presidents of (more than 20) Associations of Chinese scholars in France”, president of ASICEF.

讲座内容

The interaction of light (or electromagnetic waves in general) with objects concerns many scientific research domains and industrial processes. In the fields of radar remote sensing, atmospheric measurement, target recognition, measurement of spray in fluids and combustion, etc., it is necessary to study the scattering and propagation characteristics of light/electromagnetic waves by different kinds of objects. For the objects of very simple shape, such as sphere, the problem can be solved rigorously. But when the shape of the objects is complex, the available means are very limited. If the size of the objects is not very big compared to the wave length, numerical methods can be applied. Thus the scientific and industrial communities do not have any mean to predict accurately the scattering and absorption properties of large non-spherical objects. To fill this gap, we have developed the Vectorial Complex Ray Model (VCRM) in which a new property – the wave front curvature is introduced to describe the properties of a ray. This property permits to take into account the divergence/convergence of the wave and to improve considerably the precision and applicability of classical ray model (or high frequency method). This conference will briefly introduce the basic principles and algorithms of the model and its application in fluid mechanics for the characterization of droplet, bubble, etc. The state-of-arts and the perspectives of the model in different fields (microfluidic, free form optics system and so on) will also be presented.
