讲座人介绍 Char-Dir Chung received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, in 1989. From 1989 to 1992, Dr. Chung was with the LinCom Corporation, Los Angeles. He joined the faculty of the National Central University (NCU) in Taiwan during 1992-2005. At NCU, he founded the Advanced Communication Laboratory in 1998, the Graduate Institute of Communication Engineering in 2000 and the Communication Engineering Department in 2003, and was the founding heads of these organizations. He has been on the faculty of the National Taiwan University since 2005, where he was endowed with the SiS Technology Chair in 2009 and Distinguished Professor since 2011. His current research interest is in digital modulation theory with particular emphasis in wireless communications. Dr. Chung is a Fellow of the IEEE.
讲座内容 Orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) modulation technique has been widely adopted in contemporary wireless and wired broadband communications over fixed or fading dispersive channels. However, most OFDM waveforms are constrained to be shaped with the rectangular pulse in order to enable the efficient  realization of discrete Fourier transform (DFT) and facilitate the insertion of cyclically prefixed guard intervals for rejecting intersymbol interference and simplifying frequency-domain equalization, and are thus attributed with large power spectrum sidelobes. Large spectrum sidelobes cause strong interference to adjacent channels and are subjected to suppression and distortion before transmission. In this talk, spectral precoding technique is presented to achieve sidelobe suppression efficaciously for OFDM data waveforms. Spectral precoding permits easy incorporation into existing DFT-based OFDM systems through precoding frequency-domain data symbols before modulation and thereby enhances spectrum compactness by virtue of suppressing all spectrum sidelobes simultaneously. Spectrally precoded OFDM data waveforms can be properly designed in multicarrier systems, including OFDM, OFDM multiple access and SC-FDM, and nonorthogonal FDM, to exploit the better use of scarce radio spectrum. Based on the same design principle of all sidelobe suppression, OFDM preamble and pilot waveforms are also addressed in this talk to provide compact spectrum, while achieving robust initial synchronization and accurate channel estimation simultaneously. These preamble and pilot waveforms can be combined jointly with spectrally precoded data waveforms to compose spectrally compact composite OFDM waveforms in practical systems.
