讲座人介绍 En-hui Yang has been with the Dept. of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada since June 1997, where he is now a Professor and Canada Research Chair in information theory and applications. Dr. Yang is a Fellow of IEEE, a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. He is also a recipient of several awards, a partial list of which includes the prestigious Inaugural Ontario Premier’s Catalyst Award in 2007 for the Innovator of the Year;the 2007 Ernest C. Manning Award of Distinction, one of the Canada's most prestigious innovation priz

es; the 2013 CPAC Professional Achievement Award; the 2014 IEEE Information Theory Society Padovani Lecture Award; and the 2014 FCCP Education Foundation Award of Merit. His research interests include information theory, information security, multimedia compression, digital communications, and big data analytics. His research work has benefited billions of people over 170 countries through commercialized products, video coding open sources, and video coding standards. In 2011, he was selected for inclusion in Canadian Who’s Who.

讲座内容 Cybersecurity is of paramount importance to our Internet-based application areas, especially in IoV (Internet of Vehicles) since will be part of cyber space. As more things get smarter and connected to the Internet, we as humans become increasingly vulnerable. Indeed, security issues for IoV are even more challenging than those for standard computer systems including smarter phones, and the consequences of security breach in the whole life cycle of data in IoV are even more detrimental. Without solid security solutions in place, our properties and lives could be at risk. Although many security solutions are offered on the market, they all fail to a large extent, as evidenced by the fact that 90% of all large institutions had data breaches and/or were held for ransom over the past 12 months. In this talk, we will first analyze why existing security solutions fail. Then we will introduce a philosophically different approach to security---data security: make your data and cyber activities coexist with all looming threats and continue to function normally even within compromised networks and systems. Key technologies in this approach include, among other things, (1) encryption with post-quantum secure key management, (2) smart integration of mandatory access control and encryption (SIME), (3) behavior intelligence and machine learning, and (4) policing drivers. Together, they protect your data against data breaches and any known and unknown attacks and secure your entire data cyberspace. They have been implemented and tested in real-world environments. Finally, we will conclude the talk with a live demo.
