讲座人介绍  As a focus of intense research, ultrasound as cancer imaging technology is evolving rapidly. Our group has developed several ultrasound technologies and demonstrated their clinical use by testing these techniques on patients. Our group pioneered an acoustic imaging technique called vibro-acoustography.  In this method, ultrasound waves are used to record the mechanical response of tissue at a wide range of frequencies. The resulting images can be used to differentiate between diseased and normal tissues. Another emerging field that provides palpation-like information is the newly emerging shear wave elastography techniques, which use acoustic radiation force to generate shear waves and quantify tissue elasticity from measured shear wave speed. Based upon the fact that the shear wave travels more slowly in softer tissue and faster in stiffer tissues, shear wave elastography could be used for tissue characterization and classification of pathologic masses and lead to cancer detection. This talk encompasses the results of some human studies on newly developed ultrasound technologies.
