讲座人介绍 Dr. Ding got his Bachelor of Physics in LanZhou  University in 1995, Master of  science in 2002 in Shanghai Institute of Applied physics, and PHD in Nanyang Technological University, Singapore in 2007.  He has worked in Seagate as senior research and development engineer for more than 10 years.  He has published  40+ journal papers and 10+ US patents.
讲座内容 Chemically ordered L10 (CuAu-I type structure) FePt films with an fct (face centered tetragonal) structure possess a high Ku (magnetic anisotropy constant) value (~ 6-10107 erg/cm3), which allows them to have very small thermally stable magnetic grains (~2.6nm) and makes them the most promising candidates for ultra-high areal density recording media. Usually, as-deposited FePt alloy thin films are a disordered fcc (face-centered-cubic) phase and tend to show a (111) texture. A high temperature (above 550oC) is needed to form an ordered L10 phase. In order to develop FePt films as perpendicular magnetic recording media, the L10 FePt ordering temperature has to be reduced and the easy axis of the films should be perpendicular to the film surface. Moreover, the grain size and exchange coupling between grains should be decreased. In this presentation, the following contents will be covered:
1)   Big Data: SSD, HDD;   2) Why Heat-Assisted Magnetic  Recording (HAMR)?  3) Development of  FePt for HAMR Media; and  4) HAMR @ Seagate.
