讲座人介绍 Kevin deLaplante is currently a philosopher and creator of the Critical Thinking Academy, featuring courses on logic, cognitive biases, and fallacies of reasoning . He is the host of the Argument Ninja Podcast, where he has been exploring new approaches to critical thinking education and training that focus on the concept of “rational persuasion” and the value of thinking of critical thinking as a martial art.Previously he has taught philosophy and critical thinking at the university level for twenty years.From 2009-2013 he was the Chair of the Department of Philosophy & Religious Studies at Iowa State University. In 2015 he left his tenured academic job to pursue a career as an independent online educator. He produces video tutorial courses on topics in science, philosophy, critical thinking and communication skills. He has published on Studies on History and Philosophy of Science, Biology and Philosophy, Environmental Ethics, Encyclopedia of Environmental Ethics and Philosophy, and so on. He is also the editor of Philosophy of Ecology (with Bryson Brown and Kent Peacock), volume 11 of the multi-volume Handbook of the Philosophy of Science.
讲座内容 "Science literacy" is the ability to think critically about science and its role in modern life. By this definition, most laypeople and even most professional scientists would fail to quality as scientifically literate. I give an overview of a curriculum that is aimed at generating genuine science literacy. The curriculum is comprised of five units: (1) the Vocabulary of Science, (2) the Logic of Science, (3) the Methods of Science, (4) the Landscape of Science, and (5) the Ethics of Science. What will become clear after this overview is that science literacy is really philosophy of science literacy.
